New Delhi: 94-year-old actress Sulochana passed away due to age-related illness in a hospital in Mumbai.

Sulochana's daughter Kanchan Ghanekar confirmed this news while giving information to ABP News over phone.

Tomorrow her mortal remains will be kept at her house in Prabhadevi for the last darshan at home and then the actor's last rites will be performed at the cremation ground at Shivaji Park.

Yesteryear actress Sulochana, known for essaying motherly roles in popular Bollywood films of the 1960s and 70s, was in critical condition. The 94-year-old actress was undergoing treatment at Sushrusha Hospital in Mumbai. Sulochana's health worsened on Saturday and in such a situation, she was put on ventilator since last night. Prior to that, she was being administered with continuous oxygen supply.

Sulochana's health had worsened earlier during the month of March, and even then she was admitted to the hospital due to breathing and other age-related ailments, but she recovered after 3 weeks of treatment in the hospital. She was discharged from the hospital post her treatment.

Who was Sulochana

Sulochana acted in more than 50 Marathi films ranging from lead heroine to character roles, while acting in more than 250 Hindi films.

As an actor, Sulochana entered the world of acting in Marathi films in the 40s and after giving many hit Marathi films, she also acted in a number of Hindi films.

During the early days of her career in the 40s, she played heroine roles in many big films, but later she was recognized as an actress playing the role of a 'mother' in Hindi cinema.

The renowned mother of Bollywood

Sulochana played the roles of big hero/heroine's mother and their relatives in hundreds of films and also made a mark for herself as a character actress.

As a mother, she starred with Dev Anand, Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna's mother/relative most often and also mentioned in an interview that she would love to play the role of the mother of these three heroes.

Sulochana started playing mother and character roles in the late 50s, before that she worked as a lead heroine in Hindi and Marathi films, and during this time she worked with leading ladies of the 40s and 50s such as Ashok Kumar, Trilok Kapoor and Nazir Hussain. She worked as a lead actor opposite many heroes of the decade.

Sulochana has been awarded the Padma Shri Award in 1999, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, and the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan Award in 2009 from the Government of Maharashtra.
