‘Thappad Padte The…’: Sunny Deol Reveals He Was A Dyslexic Child; Had ‘Very High IQ’

Sunny stated that he would often get a "slap" when he did poorly in class, but no one understood what a dyslexia event meant at the time.

New Delhi: Sunny Deol revealed that he was dyslexic as he was growing up. Since he would have to "read" off a teleprompter, the actor admitted that he still gets anxious before public speeches. In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Sunny stated that he would often get a "slap" when he did poorly in class, but no one understood what a dyslexia event meant at the time.

“I was dyslexic as a child. Back then, we didn’t even know what that meant! Thappad padte the, duffer hai, padhai nahi aati (I would get slapped, called duffer for not being able to study). Even now when it comes to reading, sometimes the words seem all jumbled up. Often people say to use a teleprompter (at public gathering) but I refuse! I am like, ‘You tell me what to say, I will try to say it',” Sunny Deol said.

Though being dyslexic was a part of his personality, the actor revealed that he also had a "very high" IQ.

“Me being dyslexic never came up in conversation over the years. But it used to get difficult, initially I would feel (nervous) to speak. Now, with age may be, I feel I have opened up more. But back in the day whenever someone would hand over the microphone to me, I would wonder, ‘Now what do I say?'” he added.

After Bank of Baroda placed a notice on the e-auction of Sunny Deol's property in Mumbai's Juhu for failing to repay a loan of approximately Rs 56 crore, the actor made headlines recently.

When asked how he felt when the notice was released during a conversation with Zoom, he responded, “I don’t react to things because I know what I have, what I have to do, what the problem was and I sorted it out. But what hurts is that they printed the notice in the newspaper. I said, ‘What are they getting out of it? That’s my issue and what is wrong with it.’ A human being does business, goes into losses, and then when the losses cannot be taken care of, you have your property which you give away and you complete your losses off. It’s a normal format of life and it’s my and my dad’s hard-earned money."

Sunny Deol starrer 'Gadar 2' has become one of the most successful films of all time. The film is now hoping to join the Rs 500 crore club after earning Rs 465 crore.
