Suniel Shetty Backs Aamir Khan, Slams Constant Targeting Of Bollywood: 'Humesha Bollywood Ke Peeche...'

Suniel Shetty defends Aamir Khan amid boycott calls over Sitaare Zameen Par, says Bollywood is unfairly targeted and misunderstood in national discourse.

Ahead of the release of his upcoming film Kesari Veer, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty sat down for an exclusive interaction with ABP Live. The actor opened up not just about his new project but also addressed the ongoing boycott trends, particularly against Aamir Khan and his film Sitaare Zameen Par, as well as the status of Hera Pheri 3 and his reported fallout with Paresh Rawal.

On Bollywood raising their voice on socio-political issues

When asked whether every celebrity or public figure is expected to voice their opinion on national issues, Shetty remarked:“Humesha Bollywood ke peeche pade rehte hai. Bollywood doesn't come forward in this. Desh ke bare mein hoga toh politicians baat karenge, desh ke hit mein hoga toh hum definitely support karenge, that’s why we even make such films.”

He continued, “We are trying to do our job. Speaking about my industry, I can say there are more India-centric individuals here than anywhere else in the world.”

On Aamir Khan and ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ Boycott Calls

Responding to the recent boycott calls around Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par—reportedly triggered by the actor's past visit to Turkey—Shetty emphasized the importance of moving on.

“People should forget the past. The past history does not represent today's time. Turkey’s situation then and now are very different. So what we do going forward should be our own decision, rather than judging based on the past.”

He also commented on how celebrities are frequently targeted for harmless or unintentional actions:“When you go for big social gatherings, you don’t always know the people you’re posing for pictures with. In today’s time, if you don’t pose, you're called 'rude', and if you do so unknowingly, you still become a target.”

Sharing his own experience, Shetty added:“This has happened so many times with me—someone with a controversial background is standing next to me, and I have no idea. Hum to waise bhi dono taraf se maar hi khaate rehte hain.”

The Dhadkan actor also recalled an incident involving a seemingly legitimate company:“I once attended an event hosted by a company that looked very promising. Two years later, it turned out to be a scam. It becomes extremely difficult to differentiate and judge people or organizations in such scenarios.”

Despite the challenges, Shetty reiterated that the film industry does try to be cautious, but not everything can be predicted or controlled.
