New Delhi: Surinder Shinda, a famous Punjabi singer known for his mesmerizing voice and iconic songs, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 64 after battling a prolonged illness. The news of his demise sent shockwaves through the music industry, with singers, politicians, and fans expressing profound grief over the loss of an icon. 

The veteran singer was admitted to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana where he breathed his last breath after almost a month. 

Born as Surinder Pal Dhammi, Surinder Shinda rose to fame in the world of Punjabi music during the golden era of folk singing. His powerful and emotive vocals left a lasting impact on listeners, making him a beloved figure in the hearts of millions of fans worldwide. Some of his most famous songs like 'Putt Jattan De,' 'Jatt Jeona Morh,' and 'Truck Balliya' became anthems of Punjabi culture and heritage. 

Apart from his musical contributions, Shinda also made a mark in the Punjabi film industry, showcasing his versatile acting talents. He appeared in several notable Punjabi films, including 'Putt Jattan De,' 'Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da,' and 'Badla Jatti Da,' further solidifying his stature as a multi-talented artist. 

Surinder Shinda's passing led to an outpouring of condolences from fellow artists and political figures. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal were among those who expressed their deep sorrow at the loss of the iconic singer. Badal tweeted, "Deep condolences to the fans & the family of legendary Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda. His contribution to Punjabi music is priceless. He had an incredibly powerful voice. Shinda ji will be missed by millions of his fans around the world. May his soul rest in peace."

 

Singer-actor Harbhajan Mann described it as the end of the golden era of Punjabi folk singing, highlighting the profound impact Shinda had on the Punjabi music scene.
