Karan Johar Reacts To Babil Khan’s Viral Video: 'I Felt Terrible As A Parent'

Karan Johar opens up about Babil Khan’s emotional video and addresses the criticism of his Netflix film Nadaaniyan. Read what he said about nepotism and online hate.

Babil Khan, actor and son of the late Irrfan Khan, recently made headlines after sharing — and subsequently deleting — a video in which he named several celebrities while expressing emotional frustration. The video quickly went viral, prompting his family to release an official statement clarifying his intentions. Now, filmmaker Karan Johar has reacted to the incident in an interview with Galatta Plus, expressing empathy and concern.

Karan Johar on Babli Khan's viral clip

In the interview, Karan Johar said,“I felt as bad as people did as a parent when I saw Babil’s meltdown. I felt terrible because I also have a son and a daughter.”

Following the backlash and attention, Babil not only removed the video but also deactivated his Instagram account. His family later issued a statement explaining that Babil's intention was to sincerely acknowledge some of his peers who he believes are contributing meaningfully to Indian cinema.

A part of the official statement read:“In the clip, Babil was sincerely acknowledging a few of his peers whom he believes are making meaningful contributions to the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. His mention of artists like Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav, Arjun Kapoor, and Arijit Singh came from a place of genuine admiration — for their authenticity, passion, and efforts to restore credibility and heart in the industry.”

Several celebrities and fans came out in support of Babil, commending his honesty and passion.

Karan Johar on the Hate for 'Nadaaniyan': “Nepo Kid Bashing Has Become a Trend”

In the same interview, Karan Johar also addressed the criticism of his Netflix film Nadaaniyan, produced under Dharma Productions. The romantic drama featured Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor in lead roles and faced significant trolling online.

Karan remarked,“Hating on Nadaaniyan became fashionable. The more you hate on it, the more videos you put out, the more engagement you will get. People are loving nepo kid bashing, and I’m like — move on.”
