Govinda Reveals How A Sting Operation Helped Him Win Slapping Case: ‘He Asked Me For Rs 4 Crores’

In 2017, veteran actor Govinda settled a long-running legal case stemming from an incident in 2008, where he was accused of slapping a fan on the set of his film.

In 2017, veteran actor Govinda settled a long-running legal case stemming from an incident in 2008, where he was accused of slapping a fan on the set of his film. Now, years later, Govinda has described the case as “lucky” for him and revealed that he managed to turn the tables on his accuser with a sting operation.

The actor shared his side of the story in a recent conversation, explaining how the case unfolded and was ultimately dismissed.

Govinda on the Slapping Case

The controversy dates back to 2008, when a man named Santosh was present on the set of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. After an altercation, Govinda slapped him, leading Santosh to file a legal case against the actor, accusing him of assault and demanding monetary compensation.

Speaking about the case on Mukesh Khanna's YouTube channel, Govinda said, "The slapping case was so lucky for me. Somebody was misbehaving, and I slapped the person. The case went on for 9 years, and in the end, a friend of mine told me to do a sting operation on him and record whatever he was saying. The guy asked me for ₹3-4 crores to take back the case. I recorded that conversation and sent it to court."

Govinda further claimed that he acted in defense of women on the film's crew. “His name was Santosh. A lot of women told me not to do anything wrong with him further. They asked me to be respectful. I saw that nobody supported me; those who have been standing because of me were after me, trying to pull me down,” he added.

After nearly a decade, the case was settled in 2017 when the Supreme Court advised Govinda to apologize to Santosh. Following this, Santosh withdrew his demand for monetary compensation.

Govinda’s Recent Work

After ruling the 90s with a string of blockbuster hits and experiencing a brief career revival in the mid-2000s, Govinda's on-screen appearances became infrequent in the following decade. Apart from supporting roles in Holiday and Kill Dil, many of his films faced delays. His last big-screen outings were in FryDay (2018) and Rangeela Raja (2019).
