Amid suspense surrounding the candidate for Amethi or Rae Bareli constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, Veteran Congress leader and Congress Working Committe member AK Antony said that a person from Gandhi family would contest either Rae Bareli or Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress leader made the statement during an interview to a TV channel in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. 

When the interviewer questioned whether one member of Gandhi family would be contesting from the traditional seat of the family, Antony said, "Yes there will be one".

When asked if Priyanka Gandhi's husband Robert Vadra would contest from UP, he immediately replied that it would be "either Priyanka or Rahul", as per a report on IANS, citing Asianet interview.

However, he requested the media to wait for the decision regarding candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli seats and not speculate. 

Earlier, National Congress spokesperson Deoria Akhilesh Pratap Singh also said that everyone in I.N.D.I Alliance wishes that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi contest the elections from Amethi and Rae Bareli.

As days passed by, Antony said, BJP and NDA were coming down while I.N.D.I.A bloc was gaining more support. He told me to look at PM's body language since it told the tale. 

The country's longest-serving Defence Minister and three-time former Chief Minister of Kerala AK Antony has transitioned into a retired lifestyle. However, he maintains a routine of visiting the state party headquarters in the area regularly. He mentioned that owing to his health condition, he has not yet determined whether he will actively participate in campaigning for the Congress-led UDF candidates.

Interestingly, his son, Anil Antony, is contesting as the BJP candidate in the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency. However, he said that his son should lose in the seat while UDF candidate succeeds.
