Modi, Shah visit BJP veterans Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi after big win; Joshi lauds their performance

"He has always worked to strengthen the BJP and mentor several Karyakartas, including me. Met him this morning and sought his blessings," Modi said of Joshi after their meet.

New Delhi: A day after registering a historic win in the Lok Sabha elections and leading his party to an absolute majority, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  visited BJP veteran L K Advani  and Murali Manohar Joshi at their respective residences  in New Delhi on Friday morning. Post his meet with the two, PM Modi shared images from the visit and attributed the success of the party to the “greats” like them. “Called on respected Advani Ji. The BJP’s successes today are possible because greats like him spent decades building the party and providing a fresh ideological narrative to the people,” he tweeted. This comes amid reports of Advani’s displeasure with the decision of giving the ticket to party President Amit Shah for contesting the Lok Sabha polls from his parliamentary constituency Gandhinagar. Shah, in a stellar win, bagged the seat by a margin of 5.57 lakh votes against his nearest Congress rival C J Chavda. Shah polled 8.94 lakh votes, while Chavda secured 3.37 lakh votes. After meeting Murali Manohar Joshi, Modi tweeted: "Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi is a scholar and intellectual par excellence. His contribution towards improving Indian education is remarkable. He has always worked to strengthen the BJP and mentor several Karyakartas, including me. Met him this morning and sought his blessings." Modi was accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah. Post their visit, Joshi addressed the media-persons and said: "It is a tradition of BJP to seek blessings of senior and elder party leaders. Both PM Modi and Shah have put up wonderful performances." He said : "We sowed the seeds of the party which grew into a full tree and now its has grown into a fruit-bearing tree. I hope that entire country gets to taste these fruits." He added: "Entire country felt the need of a strong government and they did not have any alternative apart from BJP and Modi leadership. Also the Opposition did not have a narrative of its own." He said he has only one expectation, that the party should deliver as best as possible. In a stunning electoral performance, the BJP on Thursday recorded a historic victory by winning 299 seats while it was leading on four seats in a marked improvement over its 2014 showing. that left the opposition dazed and demoralized. The NDA could end up with 350 of the 542 Lok Sabha seats.
