Congress To Get 42% Votes, BJP 37%: Here's What CSDS-Lokniti's Pollster Predicted For Haryana Elections

The Congress is expected to get 42 per cent of the votes in Haryana, while the BJP is likely to get 37 per cent of the vote share, the CSDS-Lokniti survey said.

All eyes are on the result of the Haryana assembly elections which will be declared on October 8 (Tuesday). The exit polls have predicted a victory for the Congress, who have been out of power in the state for a decade.

All the preparations and security arrangements have been put in place for the counting process which will begin at 8 am on Tuesday.

The elections in Haryana will be a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress, with exit polls predicting a Congress victory in Haryana. Several other parties, including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), INLD-BSP and JJP-Azad Samaj Party are also contesting the polls.

According to the CSDS-Lokniti survey, the Congress is expected to get 42 per cent of the votes in Haryana, while the BJP is likely to get 37 per cent of the vote share. Other major parties are likely to receive 14 per cent votes, while the BSP might get 4 per cent and JJP 1 per cent. The AAP, which couldn't manage to forge an alliance with the Congress, may get 2 per cent of the votes.

Sanjay Kumar, Co-director of CSDS, while speaking to ABP News said that the Congress appears to be leading in Haryana and the party seems to have widened its voter percentage compared to the Lok Sabha elections.

"Congress definitely seems to be leading the way. Comparing the voting percentage in Haryana in Lok Sabha elections and the Exit poll predictions, there seems to be a gap. In the Lok Sabha elections there was voting for Prime Minister Modi so that he wins... But the prime minister didn't invest himself in the (assembly) elections like he does every time," Sanjay Kumar said.

He added that the people of Haryana felt that there is a need to change the state government this time and choose a different government.

"There is a gap of 5 to 6 percentage points between Congress and BJP's vote percentages, with Congress clearly leading. If this gap remains, the difference in the number of seats between the two parties could be more than double. At this point, it can only be said that with this vote share, Congress could win very easily," Kumar said.

A total of 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents and 101 women, are in the fray on Haryana's 90 constituencies which voted in single phase on October 5.

Several exit polls have predicted a Congress victory in Haryana which recorded a voter turnout of 67.90 per cent.

Rejecting the exit poll results, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has claimed his party BJP will form the government for a third time with full majority on October 8. He said when results are announced on October 8 the Congress will blame Electronic Voting Machines.

Several prominent candidates in the fray are Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini (Ladwa), Leader of Opposition Hooda (Garhi Sampla-Kiloi), INLD's Abhay Chautala (Ellenabad), JJP's Dushyant Chautala (Uchana Kalan), BJP's Anil Vij (Ambala Cantt), Capt Abhimanyu (Narnaund), O P Dhankar (Badli), AAP's Anurag Dhanda (Kalayat) and Congress' Vinesh Phogat (Julana).

From Tosham seat, former MP Shruti Choudhry of BJP and Anirudh Chaudhary, both cousins, are contesting. From Dabwali, Devi Lal's grandson Aditya Devi Lal, an INLD candidate, is taking on JJP's Digvijay Singh Chautala, great grandson of the former deputy prime minister.
