Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2017
Goa elections were last held on February 4, 2017, with Congress emerging as the single largest party with 17 MLAs. The election results threw up a hung assembly in the state with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 13 seats in the 40-member assembly.
BJP managed to form the government with support from regional parties and independents.
However, the BJP formed a government forging an alliance with the support of the Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), and two Independents, to reach the magic figure of 21 in the 40-member house.
At present, BJP has 27 MLAs, Congress four, Goa Forward Party has three, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and MGP have one each and there are three Independents. The Congress has currently four MLAs in Goa after 13 of them joined the ruling BJP and one resigned as MLA to join the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in October 2021.
Goa Legislative Assembly Election - Pre Poll Alliance
Goa will witness one of the fierce electoral battles with at least eight national and regional parties in the fray for the upcoming election. The ruling BJP, contesting the first election in the state following the death of four-time chief minister Manohar Parrikar, has its task cut out in the face of an aggressive Trinamool Congress, a new entrant, and Arvind Kejriwal's AAP.
The Congress party last month announced its first list of eight candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections in Goa.
In a tweet, the party announced the list of candidates for the assembly seats of Mapusa, Taleigao, Ponda, Marmugao, Curtorim, Margao, Cuncolim, and Quepem.

Former chief minister Digambar Vasant Kamat has been fielded from the Margao constituency, which he won in the 2017 assembly polls. Another sitting MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco will contest from his current seat of Curtorim.
As the battlefield is getting ready for state Assembly elections, it is going to wait and watch for Congress as the party will be leaving no stone unturned to come back in power after emerging as the single largest party in state elections in 2017.
