Nitish Kumar Announces 35% Reservation For Bihar Women In Govt Jobs Ahead Of Election

The Nitish Kumar Cabinet approved 35% job reservation for women with Bihar domicile, alongside establishing a Youth Commission. The move is significant as it comes ahead of the Bihar polls.

Bihar Women's Reservation: The Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved 43 proposals during its latest meeting, with several major decisions aimed at employment, youth welfare, and agricultural relief. Among the key decisions was the approval for 35% reservation for women in government jobs. The move is important ahead of the elections, given the NDA's focus on women voters.

35% Job Quota For Women With Bihar Domicile

In a landmark decision, the Cabinet approved 35% reservation for women who are original residents of Bihar in direct recruitment across all levels and categories of state government jobs. This reservation will not apply to women from outside the state.

Bihar Youth Commission To Be Formed

The Cabinet also gave the green light to the formation of the Bihar Youth Commission, which will be established for the first time in the state. The move is seen as significant, especially ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

Incentives For Disabled Candidates

To support differently abled candidates from Bihar, the Cabinet approved a proposal under which those who clear the preliminary exams of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) or the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will receive financial aid from the state government. A grant of ₹50 lakh along with a stipend of ₹1 lakh will be provided to help them prepare for the mains and interview stages.

Diesel Subsidy For Farmers

With deficient rainfall affecting farming activities in July, the Bihar government has introduced a diesel subsidy scheme to aid farmers. The Cabinet sanctioned ₹100 crore for this scheme. Under the plan, farmers will receive a subsidy of ₹2,250 per acre for three rounds of irrigation. A farmer can claim subsidies for up to 8 acres, calculated at ₹750 per acre per irrigation, based on 10 litres of diesel at ₹75 per litre.
