Bihar Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the NDA coalition, consisting of BJP, JDU, and LJP, achieved a resounding triumph, securing 39 out of 40 seats.

With 40 Lok Sabha seats, Bihar is known for its significant role and position in Indian politics. As the fourth largest contributor in terms of seats in the Lok Sabha, the electoral politics of Bihar hold sway over the national outcomes. Thus, the state's elections holds the power to turn the tides of general assembly polls at any given time. 

In Bihar, there have been notable political shifts of late, with Nitish Kumar's JDU forging a fresh alliance with the saffron party and Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM. Additionally, six members of the mahagathbandhan have switched allegiance to the NDA. Along with this, RJD's "Jan Vishwas Rally" in Patna, that took place on March 3, in which Lalu Prasad Yadav took a potshot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of attacking "Parivaarvaad" despite not having a family of his own. After this, BJP started "Modi Ka Parivar" campaign on social media in response to Lalu's remark. Further changes in the political landscape are anticipated in the run-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Bihar Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Schedule

The Bihar General Elections, known for their significant number of Lok Sabha seats, usually unfold over an extended period. This year too, polling will span across all seven phases, starting from April 19 till June 1.

The Bihar General Elections usually unfold across various phases, as scheduled by the Election Commission of India (ECI). As per the EC announcement, out of 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, four seats will poll on April 19 in first phase, five will go to polls in second phase on April 26, five will poll in third phase on May 7, five in fourth phase on May 13, five in fifth phase on May 20, eight in sixth phase on May 25 and the remaining eight in the final phase on June 1.    

Bihar Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Constituencies

Bihar, with its 40 constituencies, plays a significant role in Lok Sabha elections. These seats are divided between reserved and unreserved categories. In the 2019 general assembly polls, out of the 40 seats, 34 were unreserved, while six, including Gopalganj, Hajipur, Samastipur, Sasaram, Gaya, and Jamui, were reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.

Bihar Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Overview

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the NDA coalition, consisting of BJP, JDU, and LJP, achieved a resounding triumph, securing 39 out of 40 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, comprising INC, RJD, and RLSP, managed to secure just one seat, won by Md. Jawed of INC from Kishanganj.

The JD (U), joined the NDA in 2017 and contested the Lok Sabha elections alongside the BJP and LJP, securing 16 out of its 17 allotted seats. The BJP contested an equal number of seats, winning all, while the LJP, contesting six seats, also emerged victorious in all six.

The coalition of BJP-JD(U)-LJP proved formidable for the opposition, dominating across the state, although the Muslim-majority constituency of Kishanganj saw an exception, where the JD (U) candidate Syed Mahmood lost to the Congress candidate Mahmood Javed.

Notable victors included six Union ministers from Bihar: Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ram Kripal Yadav, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Giriraj Singh, Radha Mohan Singh, and RK Singh.
