NIT Calicut Revokes Suspension Of Dalit Student Who Protested Ayodhya Event After Widespread Protest

The authorities clarified that the decision to revoke the suspension will stand until a hearing on the petition filed by Vysakh.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut, imposed a year-long suspension on Vyasakh Premkumar, a fourth-year BTech student and Dalit, who had protested against the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Dean of Students' Welfare cited his involvement in allegedly provoking an 'unlawful' gathering on January 22 which resulted in 'campus unrest' as the reason for the suspension.

The authorities clarified that the decision to revoke the suspension will stand until a hearing on the petition filed by Vysakh.

According to ANI, KSU & SFI workers clashed with police after they protested against the director of NIT Calicut over the suspension of an SFI activist student (01/02). A student was suspended by NIT Calicut for protesting against the Ayodhya Ram temple inauguration, on 22nd January.

The police used a lathi charge on Thursday to disperse activists from a youth organization at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kozhikode who were protesting against the 'suspension'.

On January 22, a group of students associated with a science and spirituality club showed a saffron-colored map of India at the institute's gate.

In response, a group led by Premkumar, within the same institute, protested against this portrayal. Premkumar, holding a placard stating "India is not a Ram Rajya," initiated a scuffle among the students, according to a report on The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, located at NITC Campus (Post), Calicut, Kerala-673 601, has announced the invitation for applications for admissions to the Two-Year Full-Time Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme for the academic years 2024-26.
