MCD Election Results 2022: BJP-AAP In Close Tussle As Per Early Trends, Opposing Exit Poll Predictions

MCD Elections Result: Close fight between AAP and the BJP.

MCD Elections 2022: The battle for Delhi MCD has become more interesting with the BJP now leading as the trends progress. Earlier, the trends showed AAP leading in the counting and both parties are in a close tussle. The trends are opposing the exit poll predictions that gave the Aam Aadmi Party a massive majority in the MCD elections.

Poll Of Exit Polls

Most exit polls have predicted that the ruling party in Delhi would bag over 145 of the 250 wards in the MCD polls. This was the first civic election in Delhi after the fresh delimitation exercise.

According to an exit poll by Aaj Tak, AAP may get 149-171 wards. Another exit poll by Times Now shows Arvind Kejriwal's party getting anywhere between 146 and 156 wards.

Aaj Tak shows BJP getting 69-91 wards while the Times Now exit poll has given BJP anywhere between 84-94 wards. Both exit polls have shown Congress getting 10 or fewer wards.

More than 50 per cent voting was recorded on Sunday in the election to the 250 municipal wards in Delhi. The results will be announced on December 7.

  • Most exit polls have predicted that AAP, the ruling party in Delhi, would sweep the MCD polls, with BJP coming a distant second.
  • According to an exit poll by Aaj Tak, AAP may get 149-171 wards. Another exit poll by Times Now shows Arvind Kejriwal's party getting anywhere between 146 and 156 wards.
  • Aaj Tak shows BJP getting 69-91 wards while the Times Now exit poll has given BJP anywhere between 84-94 wards.
  • Both exit polls have shown the Congress getting 10 or less wards.
  • In the 2017 civic election, the BJP won 181 of the 270 wards. The AAP had won 48 wards and the Congress 27.
  • AAP claimed that the party will do better than exit poll trends. "We are expecting better results than what the exit polls predicted. These exit polls also show that people have rejected all the allegations leveled by the BJP (against AAP) and have voted for good work," Durgesh Pathak, AAP's MCD poll in-charge, told PTI.
  • Garbage collection and landfills emerged as one of the biggest issues in the fight between AAP and the BJP.
  • A victory in the MCD polls will not only cement AAP's position in Delhi but will also give the party confidence to take forward its national ambitions and emerge as a serious contender to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • A loss for BJP will severely dent the saffron party's expectations to stage a comeback in the 2025 Delhi assembly polls.
  • BJP ruled the MCD for 15 years, between 2007 and 2022 and won all three corporations (North, South and East) even after trifurcation in 2012.
