Cars Damaged, Trees Uprooted As Massive Dust Storm Hits Delhi-NCR. Visuals Surface

The weather department had predicted that Delhi residents may enjoy relief from the heat as light drizzles and thunderstorms were forecasted for May 11 and 12. 

Delhi, NCR experienced a major dust storm on Friday evening, providing relief from scorching temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain was predicted for the national capital for this week, while the maximum temperature in the region soared to 42 degrees Celcius. On Tuesday, Delhi recorded its highest temperature of the season, three notches above the normal. 

At least two flights were diverted to Jaipur as the national capital was hit by gusty winds. Incidents of trees uprooted were also reported from the Delhi-NCR region. 

In an X post, IMD issued warnings for the national capital and its adjoining area. The weather department has urged residents to stay indoors. Check out the post here: 

Several Cars Damaged After Shuttering Blew Off 

Several cars were damaged after a shuttering installed to repair a building in Sector 58 of Noida blew off due to gusty winds, ANI posted visuals.

Traffic Affected As Several Trees Uprooted 

Traffic was affected as trees fell after gusty winds hit the national capital and the adjoining areas. News agency ANI posted the visuals of the same. 

2 Air India Flights Diverted To Jaipur

Due to bad weather in Delhi, two Air India flights were diverted to Jaipur, ANI reported citing Delhi airport sources.

The weather department had predicted that Delhi residents may enjoy relief from the heat as light drizzles and thunderstorms were forecasted for May 11 and 12. 

During the second week of May last year, Delhi experienced a high of 42 degrees Celcius, although no heatwaves were recorded. The weather department previously stated that there would be no heatwave conditions in the capital for at least 10 days. However, a heatwave alert may be issued towards the end of May due to rising temperatures. 

Delhi gears up for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the sixth phase on May 25.
