Delhi: Corpse Of All 3 Workers Fished Out Of Flooded Pit Of Under-Construction Building, Search On For More Bodies

The bodies of all three labourers who fell into the pit of an under-construction building in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar were recovered.

Delhi News: The bodies of three labourers were pulled on Saturday from the rubble of a wall that collapsed at a construction site in the Vasant Vihar area here amid heavy rain, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. With this, the number of people killed in rain-related incidents in Delhi has climbed to eight. The under-construction wall collapsed on Friday, and the incident was reported to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) around 5:30 AM.

DFS officials said the bodies of three labourers have been pulled from the rubble. According to PTI, two of them have been identified as Santosh Kumar Yadav (19) and Santosh (38). The third labourer is yet to be identified. Cranes were used to clear the debris, and water was pumped out of the foundation pit to recover the bodies. The bodies were taken to Safdarjung Hospital, the officials said.

Shrawan Yadav, relative of one of the victims, said, "A tree fell amid the heavy rains yesterday. Rooms made for labourers also caved in. One of the labourers belonged to Bihar's Supaul district, the other one was from Araria district. One of the bodies is yet to be recovered".

On Friday, the national capital witnessed heavy, incessant rainfall, creating traffic snarls and roadblocks. A few labourers were trapped after an under-construction wall collapsed in the Vasant Vihar area.

According to preliminary reports, the collapse was worsened by the heavy rainfall, which also resulted in two trees falling into the basement pit where temporary huts for labourers were situated, as reported by ANI. Labour Dayaram and two other individuals were trapped in the mud and debris.

Following the incident, rescue operations led by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the fire department began. Teams were mobilised to take out any individuals trapped under the debris.
