Yogi Says Agra's Identity Linked To Shivaji Maharaj, Asks 'What Connection Do Mughals Have?'

Yogi Adityanath slammed the previous government for naming a museum in Agra after the Mughals. Questioning the decision, he asked, "What connection do the Mughals have with Agra?"

Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday asserted that Agra’s identity is "rooted in Brajbhoomi, Vrindavan Bihari Lal and Radha Rani, and not the Mughals" as he emphasised that if any historical figure should be linked to the city it should be Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

"If Agra is to be linked to any historical figure, it should be Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," the UP CM said while addresing a gathering at the Janpadiya Vikas Utsav in Agra to celebrate eight years of his government.

Memorial For Shivaji Maharaj To Be Built In Agra

He then highlighted that his government renamed the museum after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and announced plans for building a grand memorial in his honour.

"While a previous govt was getting a museum dedicated to the Mughals made in Agra his govt renamed it after Shivaji, asserting that Mughals had no connection with Agra. A memorial for Shivaji would also be constructed in Agra," he said.

During the event, Yogi highlighted the progress made under his government in areas of service, security, and good governance, in addition to other key developmental achievements. The CM also inaugurated and laid foundation stone of 128 projects worth  Rs 635 crore in the city.

He said the petha and leather industry in Agra were given a signficant push under the BJP government as he stressed how his government focused on the preservaion of heritage and development. 

On Wednesday, UP CM's chartered plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Agra's Kheria Airport after the aircraft developed a technical snag mid-air. The incident took place just 20 minutes into the flight after the takeoff following the conclusion of CM's scheduled programmes in the city.

Thereafter, a replacement chartered plane arrived from Delhi and the CM resumed his journey to Lucknow.
