Watch: Bengaluru Student Uses AI To Break Language Barrier In Auto Fare Bargaining

A now-viral video shows the student using ChatGPT’s voice feature to communicate with the driver in fluent Kannada, the local language and barging to bring down the auto fare from Rs 200 to Rs 100.

In a city where language differences often spark tension, a student in Bengaluru turned to artificial intelligence to peacefully resolve a fare negotiation with an auto-rickshaw driver—sparking praise online for this innovative approach.

A now-viral video shows the student using ChatGPT’s voice feature to communicate with the driver in fluent Kannada, the local language. The fare was initially quoted at Rs 200, but thanks to a real-time AI-mediated conversation, it was successfully negotiated down to Rs 120.

ChatGPT Comes To Rescue

Faced with a language barrier, the student prompted ChatGPT to help him convince the driver to lower the price. He explained that he was a student and typically paid less for that route. Responding immediately, the AI app relayed the message in Kannada, telling the driver that the passenger was a regular commuter and could only afford Rs 100.

The auto driver countered, saying he had originally asked for Rs 200 but was willing to reduce it. After a quick back-and-forth—mediated entirely through ChatGPT—the two parties settled on Rs 120. The student accepted, and the journey began.

What caught the public’s attention wasn’t just the clever use of technology, but how AI enabled a peaceful and respectful exchange in a situation where tempers might otherwise have flared. With Bengaluru often making headlines for disputes related to non-Kannada speakers, the moment served as an example of how AI can be used to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps.

Social media users applauded the student’s creativity and highlighted the growing role of multilingual AI tools in everyday urban challenges.
