Video: BJP MLA Yogesh Verma Slapped In Lakhimpur Kheri

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to this incident and said that injustice gives birth to violence.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Yogesh Verma was slapped by an advocate amid a controversy over the election of the Urban Cooperative Bank Management Committee in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. The advocate has been identified as local Bar Association President Awadhesh Singh.

The MLA's supporters beat up Awadhesh, following which the police tried to intervene. Verma has alleged rigging in the Urban Cooperative Bank elections.

This incident comes amid a growing controversy involving the elections after a letter from BJP's Lakhimpur unit District President Sunil Singh and Yogesh Verma went viral in which it was claimed that they have demanded the postponement of the elections. However, ADM Sanjay Singh clarified that the elections will not be postponed. Meanwhile, the members have alleged that someone tore the voter list for the election.

The process for this election will start from October 14 and the votes will be counted on the same day. The nomination process will start on Wednesday and the withdrawal will be allowed by October 10.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to this incident. He wrote that injustice gives birth to violence. "The physical activity done by the husband of the former chairman, enraged by the rigging done by the BJP MLA of Lakhimpur in the cooperative elections, has become a topic of discussion. The emergence of such circumstances is a shameful situation for democracy. Electoral rigging has become the strategy of the BJP. Condemnable!"
