Uttarakhand: Man Arrested For Placing Detonators On Haridwar-Dehradun Railway Track, Probe Underway
A man has been arrested from UP's Rampur for placing detonators on the Haridwar-Dehradun railway track in Uttarakhand. Probe is on to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
Uttarakhand: A man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly placing detonators on the Haridwar-Dehradun railway track in Uttarakhand's Haridwar.
The information about the detonators on the railway track near Moti Chur railway station was sent to the Haridwar Government Railway Police (GRP) from the control room of Moradabad Railway Division on Sunday night. Following this, a GRP team rushed to the spot and recovered the detonators, news agency PTI reported.
Haridwar GRP's Senior Superintendent of Police Sarita Dobhal said that CCTV footage showed a man moving suspiciously along the railway tracks. Later, the police identified the man and arrested him. During the interrogation, he told his name as Ashok and that he is a resident of Revali Kala village in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur.
According to a report by Amar Ujala, GRP station in-charge Anuj Singh said that on Monday that information about the detonator was received from Control Moradabad. Thereafter, CO Swapnil Muyal, under the direction of SP GRP Sarita Dobal, reached the spot with his team.
Dhobal said several detonators were recovered from the accused and that a case has been registered against him under the relevant sections. The SSP also said that the motive behind the incident is not yet clear and the police is still interrogating him.
According to TV9 report, the Uttarakhand police has also informed the central agencies about the case. The central agencies have also began investigating the matter given its seriousness. The accused is in custody.
In another similar incident, a railway staffer was arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RFF) on September 23 for allegedly stealing 10 detonators that went off on a track when the passing of a military special train in Madhya Pradesh.
The incident took place on September 18 after a military special train was halted for two minutes due to the explosion of ten detonators near Sagphata, located between Khandwa and Nepanagar stations in the Bhusawal division. The railways described the detonators as "harmless".
