Uttarakhand: British-Era Policing System To End Soon In Pauri

Uttarakhand's Pauri district is preparing to abolish the revenue police system, integrating 1,777 villages under the regular policing system.

Uttarakhand News: A British-era practice is about to end in Pauri, Uttarakhand. The revenue police system, which has been in place in 1,777 villages in Pauri district, will be abolished. After this, these villages will also be included under the regular police system. This change is expected to not only strengthen law & order in the district but also prevent harassment of citizens in the mazes of double police jurisdiction in pursuit of justice.

The district's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lokeshwar Singh has sent a detailed proposal to the Director General of Police. It has recommended that all revenue villages in the district be included in the regular police system. Along with this, a proposal has been made to establish three police stations and 10 outposts in the district. There are also plans to upgrade some of the existing police stations and outposts.

New Police Stations In Pauri

SSP Singh said new police stations will be established in Kaljikhal, Agroda and Seriyakhal. Apart from this, there is a proposal to build new outposts in Danda Nagraja, Pokharikhet, Sanglakoti, Naugaonkhal, Kot, Lwali, Silogi, Farsula, Kandakhal and Paukhal. There is also a plan to upgrade the Dugadda outpost to the status of a police station.

The British-era revenue police system has been in place in Pauri district for a long time. Under this system, revenue inspectors and sub-inspectors managed law and order. However, both the public and officials have been demanding a change in this system for a long time. Complaints of delay in getting justice and corruption also plague the revenue police system.

The Uttarakhand High Court has issued directions to the Pushkar Singh Dhami government in this matter. DM of Pauri Ashish Chauhan has instructed the sub-district magistrates of the tehsils concerned to take immediate action on the SSP's proposal. He said that the report should be submitted within three days so that this process can be expedited.

Currently, there are 10 police stations and 4 kotwali areas in Pauri district. Kotwali Pauri, Srinagar, Lansdowne and Kotdwar are the main kotwalis. At the same time, various areas come under the Thalisain, Paithani, Dhumakoti, Rikhnikhal, Yamkeshwar, Lakshmanjhula, Satpuli, Kalagarh and Devprayag police stations.

The inclusion of the villages under the regular police jurisdiction will increase the area of influence of law and order. People will no longer have to run to and fro the revenue police and regular police. Apart from this, increasing the number of police stations and outposts will bring police closer to rural areas, which will help in curbing crime.
