'PM Sought Forgiveness': Congress' Ajay Rai Takes Jibe At Modi's Holy Dip At Maha Kumbh

Ajay Rai's statement came while he was on his visit to the Ghazipur residence of Inspector Anjani Rai, who allegedly died in the Maha Kumbh stampede.

Uttar Pradesh's congress president Ajay Rai lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that he took a dip in the Ganga and sought forgiveness from Ganga Maiya. The remarks came when, Ajay Rai, was on his visit to the Ghazipur residence of Inspector Anjani Rai, who allegedly died in the Maha Kumbh stampede that reportedly claimed 30 lives.

PM Modi on Wednesday took a holy dip in the Ganga at Triveni Sangam at Maha Kumbh in Prayagrj.

Ajay Rai also called the inspector’s death suspicious and demanded a judicial probe led by a sitting High Court judge. He alleged that the police were concealing and misrepresenting details of their own officer’s death in Kumbh. He pointed out discrepancies in official records, stating that the date of death was listed as January 29, yet tweets and statements were issued on January 30.

Rai further claimed that they could also be suppressing the actual death toll of the stampede if the police were covering up an inspector’s death. He alleged that while the official count was 30, the real number was in the thousands, adding that when there is immense crowd pressure, such incidents are inevitable.

Recalling a similar incident at one of his events where a party worker died, he said that he was detained at a police station for two hours. Rai criticized the Kumbh arrangements, asserting that the event's management had completely collapsed and that millions of devotees were facing difficulties.
