Monsoon Momentum In Uttar Pradesh: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Expected Across 55+ Districts

After weeks of scorching heat and relentless loo winds, a welcome shift in weather is sweeping across Uttar Pradesh. Rainfall on Sunday brought much-needed relief to several parts of the state, and now the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant intensification of showers starting Monday.
According to the IMD, more than 55 districts are set to witness thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and lightning from Monday, as monsoon conditions strengthen across the region. Over the next five days, temperatures are expected to dip by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, ushering in a much more pleasant and bearable climate. The threat of heatwaves will also begin to ease.
Rains Set To Intensify Statewide
The weather department has issued widespread rain alerts for both western and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh. Several districts are likely to receive heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning. Wind speeds may reach up to 40-50 km/h, adding to the intensity of the weather system.
The monsoon's momentum is expected to pick up further from June 18. By June 20, most parts of the state could experience intense rainfall, significantly cooling down daytime temperatures. Rainfall is forecast to continue until at least June 21, offering prolonged respite from the summer heat.
Districts on Alert for Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain
A red alert for heavy rainfall with thunder and strong winds has been issued in the following districts: Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Noida, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Lalitpur, Fatehpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, and Kaushambi.
These regions may experience thundercloud activity accompanied by winds gusting between 40 kmph and 50 kmph. Residents are advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during intense weather hours.
Light to Moderate Showers in Other Areas
In other parts of the state, including Mathura, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra, Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Mainpuri, Kasganj, Badaun, Sambhal, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Kannauj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Lucknow, Unnao, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Gonda, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Ghazipur, Ambedkar Nagar, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, and Chandauli, one or two locations may witness isolated rainfall today.
Storm Claims 23 Lives in 24 Hours
Tragically, severe weather over the past 24 hours has claimed the lives of at least 23 people across the state due to lightning strikes and storm-related incidents. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to provide immediate financial aid and support to the affected families.
Advisory for Residents: Stay Vigilant
With more heavy rain and thunderstorms on the horizon, authorities are urging residents to remain cautious. People living in vulnerable areas are advised to stay indoors during severe weather and keep away from trees and electric poles during lightning.
The administration has been instructed to ensure rapid response and relief in case of any damage caused by strong winds or rain-related incidents.
