Monsoon Momentum In Uttar Pradesh: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Expected Across 55+ Districts

Heavy rains and thunderstorms to lash 55+ UP districts this week as monsoon intensifies. IMD issues alerts; temperature to drop, offering relief from heatwave conditions.

After weeks of scorching heat and relentless loo winds, a welcome shift in weather is sweeping across Uttar Pradesh. Rainfall on Sunday brought much-needed relief to several parts of the state, and now the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant intensification of showers starting Monday.

According to the IMD, more than 55 districts are set to witness thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and lightning from Monday, as monsoon conditions strengthen across the region. Over the next five days, temperatures are expected to dip by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, ushering in a much more pleasant and bearable climate. The threat of heatwaves will also begin to ease.

Rains Set To Intensify Statewide

The weather department has issued widespread rain alerts for both western and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh. Several districts are likely to receive heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning. Wind speeds may reach up to 40-50 km/h, adding to the intensity of the weather system.

The monsoon's momentum is expected to pick up further from June 18. By June 20, most parts of the state could experience intense rainfall, significantly cooling down daytime temperatures. Rainfall is forecast to continue until at least June 21, offering prolonged respite from the summer heat.

These regions may experience thundercloud activity accompanied by winds gusting between 40 kmph and 50 kmph. Residents are advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during intense weather hours.
