UP Man 'Forced To Lick Own Spit' By Cops After Organising Unauthorized ‘Nautanki’ Program

In Raebareli, the police are being criticized for allegedly forcing a man to lick his own spit. The incident occurred during a 'nautanki' programme that was held without permission.

The Uttar Pradesh police came under fire after cops allegedly forced a man to lick his own spit for "creating chaos" during a 'nautanki' programme organised without permission from the authorities in the Nasirabad area of Raebareli.

According to police, the victim Sushil Sharma is representative of the head of Kapurpur village in Nasirabad. Sharma organised a 'Nautanki' programme without permission on October 30. When a team from the local police station reached the spot late at night to ask him to stop the nautanki programme, Sharma and his associates allegedly misbehaved with them and created chaos.

"During the programme, he and his associates misbehaved with the people and created chaos under the influence of alcohol. The accused also misbehaved with a police team from the local police station after which five people, including Sharma, were taken into custody," police said in a statement on Sunday.

Sharma, however, said the police team reached the village late at night and asked him to stop the nautanki programme. He claimed that he and four others were detained and physically assaulted at the local police station while he was made to lick his own spit. Sharma also accused Nasirabad SHO Shivakant Pandey of demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from him.

Following this, the Rashtriya Panchayati Raj Gram Pradhan Sangathan on Saturday lodged a written complaint with the SP, demanding action.

Superintendent of Police (Raebareli) Yashveer Singh told news agency PTI that the allegations are being investigated by the additional superintendent of police and action will be taken based on his report.
