UP Hit-And-Run: BJP Leader In Custody After Son Driving BMW Fatally Knocks Down Man In Basti
Hamidullah, who is a BJP leader, was taken into custody amid protests by the family of the victim. Azmatullah, also known as Hani, was allegedly driving the BMW when the accident occurred.
The police on Saturday arrested Azmatullah's father Hamidullah, who was involved in a hit-and-run case leading to the death of one person in the Basti district of Uttar Pradesh.
Hamidullah, who is a BJP leader, was taken into custody amid protests by the family of the victim. Azmatullah, also known as Hani, was allegedly driving the BMW when the accident occurred.

Police are on the lookout for Azmatullah, who has been absconding ever since the accident. The police said that they had taken Azmatullah's father into custody for questioning in the case.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Lal Gupta and his family has claimed that the car was intentionally driven into the victim, who worked as a cook.
The incident occurred on Thursday near Kartar Talkies when Gupta was out of his home for a short walk after returning from work, his wife Gyanti Devi said. While he was standing on the roadside, the BMW driver drove towards him intentionally and fatally injured him, she alleged.
In a separate incident in UP, a sub-inspector was suspended on Saturday after a video showed him assaulting two officials, both brothers, after a road accident.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla, in a statement, said a probe into the video revealed the road rage incident took place in Bahraich district on the day of Diwali. The video of the incident is doing the rounds on social media since Thursday evening.
Sub-Inspector Abhishek Singh, in-charge of the Tikoni Bagh police outpost, has been suspended due to allegations that he thrashed two officials on the side of a road, said the statement released by the police media cell on Saturday.
