Troop Of 25 Monkeys Found Dead In Telangana's Mahabubabad Again

Telangana News: The increasing monkey population in Mahabubabad has caused human-animal conflicts, leading to calls for population control.

Telangana News: The bodies of 25 monkeys were discovered on the outskirts of Bancharai Thanda in Kuravi village, Mahabubabad district, on Sunday. Villagers found the animals’ carcasses discarded near an agricultural field and promptly notified local authorities. Kuravi forest officials quickly arrived at the scene after being alerted to the incident.

Preliminary suspicions suggest the monkeys may have been poisoned, reported The Times Of India. M Srinivas, the forest divisional officer for Kuravi, stated that a joint investigation is underway, with forest officials, police, and revenue officers working together to identify those responsible.

A similar incident occurred in Mahbubabad in 2020 when 40 monkeys were allegedly poisoned and then stuffed into gunny bags. The bodies of the monkeys were discovered on a hill near Sanigapuram village on Tuesday.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition of the carcasses, including those of several young monkeys, a postmortem could not be performed, the official explained.

The monkey population in Mahbubabad district has been a problem for a long time. Last year, BRS MLC Thakkellapalli Ravinder Rao spoke out on the issue and appealed to the administration to control their population.

Rao pointed out that the rapidly increasing population of monkeys has led to instances of human-animal conflicts in the district. According to Telangana Today, he said: "Monkeys were damaging vegetables, orchards and fields... due to the presence of monkeys in a large number people were scared to step out of their homes."

145 Monkeys Buried At FCI Godown In UP

In November 2024, 145 monkeys were found buried at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Police discovered the decomposing corpses on November 22 and sent them for a postmortem examination.

The Hindu reported, the monkeys died after inhaling pesticides made of aluminium phosphide used to keep insects off wheat sacks. The monkeys had entered the godown through a broken window and ended up breathing in the gas.
