RJD's Tej Pratap Defends 'Thumka Order' To Cop, Accuses 'BJP, RSS' Of 'Playing Politics Over Holi'

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav said that the festival has been given a “new colour of hatred by the BJP, RSS, and their lapdog media”.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav slammed “the BJP, RSS and the media” after he was criticised over a video in which he was seen instructing a police personnel to dance during Holi celebrations. On Saturday, he accused the BJP, RSS, and the media of "politicising the festival and spreading hatred."

In an X post, he wrote that the festival has been given a “new colour of hatred by the BJP, RSS, and their lapdog media”.

"Don't mind, it's Holi... Even this festival of mutual brotherhood has been given a new colour of hatred by the BJP, RSS, and their lapdog media...," Yadav posted on X in Hindi, along with a cartoon mocking media organisations. "Doing politics over celebrating Holi with police personnel or any opposition leader has become their religion. The people of the country will soon teach them a lesson," he added.

In the viral video, Yadav is heard telling a policeman, “Ae Sipahi, ek gana bajayenge usme tumko thumka lagana hai. Bura na mano Holi hai. Thumka lagao nahi toh suspend kar diye jaoge” (Hey, policeman, a song will be played, and you have to dance. Don’t mind, it's Holi. Dance or you will be suspended) during Holi celebrations at his residence in Patna.

The video drew sharp criticism from the Janata Dal (United), the BJP, who accused RJD of continuing its "jungle raj" culture.

BJP MP Dinesh Sharma slammed Yadav for disrespecting the police. "He (Tej Pratap) will never get the right to suspend anyone. And he belongs to a family that insults the police and the uniform... Inka gharana natak nautanki ke liye theek hai (their family is only fit for drama), they would be considered unfit to run the government," Sharma told ANI.

Police Criticise RJD Leader

Retired senior police officers have also criticised the RJD leader's remarks, calling them an "insult" to the force and demanding appropriate action against him.

According to ANI, a retired Delhi Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ajay Kumar Singh, condemned the remark and urged all authorities to take action against the RJD leader. Singh also said that no action should be taken against the officer because he was just following orders and actions against him would be unfair and unacceptable.

"The uniform has dignity, and we have a code of conduct. It is clearly mentioned in the police manual that police personnel must not act against the code of conduct. Tej Pratap is behaving like an imposter, saying such things to your own security is an insult to the police," the former Delhi ACP said.
