Right-Wing Outfits Call For Bandh In Karnataka Over Mangaluru Mob Lynching Accused's Murder

Hindu right-wing outfits have called for a bandh in Karnataka's Dakshin Kannada district after Suhas Shetty, an accused in the mob lynching of Fazil, was hacked to death.

Hindu right wing outfits including the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have called a bandh in Karnataka's Dakshin Kannada district on Friday.

The protest call has been given after Suhas Shetty, an accused in the mob lynching of Fazil in Mangalore was hacked to death on Thursday night.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupal Agrawal said, "Last night at around 8.30 pm, Suhas Shetty, a rowdy sheeter, who is accused number one in Fazil's murder case, was killed by 5-6 unidentified assailants."

A murder case has been registered and teams are working on it, he said, adding it is too early to say what was the motive behind the murder.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in Mangaluru, Agrawal said. Shops are shut and transport services have been halted disrupting normal life across the district, as per IANS.

Tensions remained high as some miscreants tried to pelt stones on some buses, the police official said, adding that police personnel have been adequately deployed in the city to ensure peace.

Home Minister Takes Cognisance

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara Rao said he has taken note of the incident and four teams have been formed to catch the culprits.

"Yesterday evening, in Mangaluru city, a murder has happened. We have already taken note of it. We have set up 4 different teams to catch the culprits," the minister said.

"We are going to bring them to the books...in Dakshin Kannada, we try to bring in lots of peace and harmony and incidents like this should not deter that peace and harmony...we have taken this very seriously...," he added.
