RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: Kolkata Police Respond To Allegations Of Unauthorised Entry, Evidence Tampering At Crime Scene

Kolkata Police dismissed claims about evidence being tampered with at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the trainee doctor was raped and murdered.

After dismissing claims about the viral RG Kar tapes and different bedsheets being used to cover the body of the RG Kar rape and murder victim, the Kolkata Police on Friday sternly rebuffed another claim, asserting that the crime scene was not compromised. This comes after visuals of the crowded seminar hall, where the crime took place, went viral, and reports suggested that the evidence might have been tampered with. Even the CBI had alleged during a Supreme Court hearing that the seminar hall had been altered and the victim's family misled.

Underlining that the evidence tampering claims were incorrect, DC Central Indira Mukherjee said during a press conference today (August 30) that the Kolkata Police have been able to identify each and every person present in the seminar hall, as seen in the pictures of the seminar hall that surfaced.

"We have seen that there is one particular news channel which has shown a video and some pictures of the seminar hall which is the place of occurrence of this case. There it has been seen that inside the cordoned off area, many people are standing and talking, and it is not clear who are these people. It has been alleged that there are probably some people who were not supposed to be there and there has been some tampering of evidence. We have taken a still from that video... We have been able to identify each and everyone who was there in this picture," she said.

Nobody Entered Who Was Not Authorised: Kolkata Police

Mukherjee then went on to idnetify each individual present at the crime scene at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. "Right behind the cordon is the dead body... We have a videographer from the detective department, Commissioner of Police, Additional CP-1, Lady Police and forensic officials here. All are known to us and identified," she said.

The DCP further showed another image of the seminar hall and identified each person present in it as well. "There is also another picture and a new set of people. We have the witness doctor, FSL, fingerprint expert, the ACP of the detective department, the videographer, additional CP -1 and the forensic officials. This picture or the video is of the time when the inquest process was over," Mukherjee said.

The cop emphasised on there being no unauthorised person present at the area that she said had been cordoned off.  "At no point in time could anybody enter this area who was not authorized. Nobody entered who was not associated with the investigation process," she clarified.

Earlier today, Mukherjee had also rubbished claims about the viral audio clips wherein the RG Kar administration can be heard informing the parents of the victim about the unfortunate incident, stating sickness and then suicide as reasons behind their daughter's death.

Responding to this, the DC said: "We heard some audio clips that were rolled by many channels...No such comments have been made by Kolkata Police. We never said that it was a suicide."
