Rajiv Bindal Re-Elected Unopposed As Himachal BJP President For Third Term: Jitendra Singh

Rajiv Bindal was re-elected unopposed as Himachal BJP chief for a third term. A five-time MLA, his win reflects party unity. National Council and ex-officio members were also announced.

Shimla, Jul 1 (PTI) — Rajiv Bindal has been re-elected unopposed as the president of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking the beginning of his third term in the position. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who officially declared Bindal’s re-election.

Bindal emerged as the sole contender for the post, being the only leader to file nomination papers on Monday. His unopposed election reflects a consensus within the party on his leadership and political experience.

A seasoned politician, Bindal has a long-standing association with the Himachal BJP. He has served five terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from 2002 to 2022. During this period, he was elected thrice from the Solan constituency and twice from Nahan. From 2007 to 2012, he held the portfolio of Health Minister in the BJP government led by Prem Kumar Dhumal.

In addition to his ministerial role, Bindal served as the Speaker of the 13th Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. He was unanimously elected to the position on January 10, 2018, and held it until January 2020. He briefly took charge as the state BJP chief in the past and was reappointed to the role in April 2023, before now securing a full third term.

Alongside the announcement of Bindal's re-election, nominations for eight National Council members were filed on Monday. Those elected include former minister Govind Thakur and BJP general secretaries Bihari Lal Sharma, Trilok Kapoor, Pawan Kajal, Rashmi Dhar Sood, Payal Vaidya, Rajiv Saizal, and Sanjeev Katwal.

Furthermore, several prominent party figures have been named as ex-officio members of the BJP's National Council. These include Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur; former Union Minister Anurag Thakur; Lok Sabha MPs Suresh Kashyap, Kangna Ranaut, and Rajiv Bharadwaj; and Rajya Sabha MPs Indu Goswami, Sikender Kumar, and Harsh Mahajan.

The organizational restructuring comes at a crucial time as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges in the state and at the national level.
