Rajasthan's 'Mooli Devi' Poses As Sub-Inspector For 2 Years Without Selection — How She Was Busted

Mona Bugalia, alias Mooli Devi, was arrested for impersonating a police sub-inspector for two years at the Rajasthan Police Academy.

A Rajasthan woman has been arrested after masquerading for two years as a police sub-inspector inside the Police Academy in Rajasthan, attending the training sessions, wearing the official uniforms, and even posing for photographs with the senior police officials. According to an NDTV report, the Rajasthan Police Academy has stated that it is impossible to reach the classroom and the indoor facilities of the RPA.

The report also mentions that the accused, who is identified as Mona Bugalia, alias Mooli Devi, was arrested this week in Rajasthan's Sikar. She had been reportedly on the run since 2023, when the first complaint was lodged against her in Jaipur.

The police said that Bugalia had successfully entered the state's premier police training institution without even passing the recruitment exam for sub-inspector.

According to NDTV, police following her arrest searched a rented room associated with Bugalia and recovered Rs 7 lakh in cash, three separate police uniforms, and examination papers from the Rajasthan Police Academy. The cops have also recovered forged documents that had been used to support her false identity and background.

Who Is Mooli Devi?

Mooli Devi hails from Nimba Ke Bas, a small village in Nagaur, and is from a humble background. Her father is a truck driver, and she has reportedly four sisters.

According to Republic World, she attempted to become a sub-inspector in Rajasthan in 2021. However, she failed. But she followed a plot so daring that it could rival a thriller. She forged documents, assumed a new identity, and claimed selection falsely into the police force under sports quota.

According to media reports, she joined the WhatsApp groups meant exclusively for the sub-inspector recruits, walked the parade grounds of RPA in official attire, and also attended training sessions amid strict protocols of the academy.

Amid the ongoing probe about how she breached the secure training institutions, the recent incident has raised serious questions about the loopholes and lapses in verification that resulted in such incidents.
