'Who Says We Have No Leader? We Have 10': Rahul Gandhi’s Sharp Retort When Asked About MP Leadership Crisis

During his Bhopal visit, Rahul Gandhi emphasised collective leadership in Madhya Pradesh Congress, dismissing the need for a single face. He stressed discipline and performance-based roles.

During his visit to Bhopal on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress MP Rahul Gandhi firmly addressed concerns over the party’s leadership in Madhya Pradesh, asserting that the Congress is no longer driven by a single face but by collective strength. During a meeting at the state Congress headquarters, Rahul Gandhi interacted with party MLAs, district presidents, and senior leaders. He stressed that discipline will now be non-negotiable within the organisation.

In response to a question raised by one of the MLAs regarding the absence of a clear leadership face for the Congress in the state, Rahul Gandhi shot back, “Who says we don’t have a face? We have 10 faces.” He further clarified that the party is no longer reliant on a single figure but will move forward with the collective strength of its leadership group.

“Wedding Horse Will Not Go to Race, Limping One Will Go Home”: Rahul Gandhi's Message To MP Leaders

Taking a jibe at the party’s past functioning style, Rahul remarked, “Earlier, Congress would send the wedding horse to the race, and the race horse to the wedding. That won’t happen anymore. Now, the race horse will go to the race, the wedding horse to the wedding, and the limping horse will be asked to retire.”

His comments were directed at improving internal efficiency and matching the right people with the right responsibilities within the organisation.

Rahul Gandhi also issued a stern warning to district Congress presidents, declaring that those failing to deliver will be promptly replaced. “A district president should not just hold the title, but also deliver results. If they are not performing, they will be changed. Just because someone became president once doesn’t mean they will remain so forever,” he said.

He also revealed the party’s goal of preparing 55 new leaders in Madhya Pradesh to take on future responsibilities, emphasising the need for active involvement from district heads and organisational office-bearers.

Highlighting the increasing role of district presidents, Rahul said their reports would be pivotal in decisions related to local body elections and the allocation of Assembly tickets. The performance of the Congress in terms of vote share in each district will also be closely monitored.

The former Congress president remarked that some leaders were making public statements under pressure from the BJP or due to personal dissatisfaction; he warned that the party would now keep a close watch on such behaviour. “Indiscipline will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Rahul added.
