Punjab Woman Constable Arrested For Drugs Possession, Dismissed From Service

The constable has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. An investigation is also underway to assess the properties, other assets acquired by the accused.

The Punjab Police has dismissed a woman constable from service in Bathinda district after she was found smuggling drugs. The woman constable was arrested on Thursday with 17.71 grams of heroin amid Punjab government's ongoing anti-drug drive 'Yudh Nasheian Virudh' (war against drugs).

The police along with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) intercepted Constable Amandeep Kaur's SUV near the Badal flyover in Bathinda on Wednesday evening after receiving a tip-off, news agency PTI reported citing  Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-1) Harbans Singh.

Upon search, 17.71 gm of heroin was found from Kaur's possession. Her car was also impounded.

According to a report by the Indian Express, Kaur showed WhatsApp messages, chats and photographs to show-off her close connections with a senior IPS officer.

"Recently this constable was suspected to have been ferrying large quantities of heroin from Fazilka to Bathinda and was intercepted at a road naka by police personnel. She did not allow them to inspect her car and managed to get away by claiming that she was a policewoman," the report cited a senior officer as saying.

It was decided that the constable should be dismissed from service due to these developments associated with her, the report said.

DSP Singh said that they had been receiving complaints about th alleged involvement of a police personnel in drug trafficking. Kaur stood out due to her lavish lifetsyle. She was later arrested on the basis of confirmed intelligence, Indian Express reported.

Investigation Underway

Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill said Kaur has been dismissed, in accordance with the state government's directives to dismiss any personnel found involved in drugs-related cases.

He said the Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police Bhagirath Meena dismissed the woman constable from service following due procedure, PTI reported.

Kaur was earlier deployed with the Mansa police and was stationed at the Bathinda Police Lines at the time of her arrest. She is active on social media platform Instagram, where she often posts reels with her Thar SUV, which even has a Punjab Police sticker on it.

IG Gill said that the investigation of the case has been handed over to SSP Bathinda Amneet Kondal.
