Waqf Bill: Police On High Alert In UP, Bihar; Security Stepped Up In Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Areas

Following the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, police in various cities including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, are on high alert to prevent any protests or violence during Friday prayers.

The police are on high alert in various cities in the country to pre-empt any protest or violence against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 which was passed by the Parliament in the early hours of Friday. 

The legislation aims to bring changes in the administration of waqf properties in the country. 

Police personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas in Delhi and several districts of Uttar Pradesh ahead of Friday namaz. Last month, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board called for a silent protest by tying a black band during the Alvida Jumma namaz against the legislation.

Security Beefed In Delhi

The Delhi Poilce have deployed companies of the central armed police forces in sensitive area in the city. CCTV cameras and drones are also being used to monitor rooftops and lanes, reported The Times of India. 

In view of the intelligece inputs, district Deputy Commissioners of Police have been instructed to deploy 100 female police officers in specific areas to manage potential women protestors. The cops are maintaining drone surveillance in Shaheen Bagh which saw massive protest by women against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Jamia Nagar, Seelampur, Jafrabad, and areas around Jama Masjid are also under police surveillance. 

Security has been stepped in Jamia Millia Islamia to ensure that law and order is not disturbed by anti-social elements over the contentious legislation. "To maintain law and order at multiple sensitive areas, we have intensified night patrolling and additional deployment will be arranged," a senior police officer said, reported PTI.

High Alert In UP, Bihar 

Several districts in Uttar Pradesh were also on high alert with authorities conducting flag march to ensure peace and security. Sambhal, Amroha, and Mau were some of the cities where cops are keeping surveillance through drones and conducting flag march. 

In capital Lucknow, police officers held a foot march ahead of the Friday prayers. Deputy Commissioner of Police Central Lucknow, Ashish Srivastava said, "We are in contact with everyone. We have asked them to make an opinion only after reading the whole Bill."

"We are monitoring social media constantly...We are organizing foot march and route march," he added.  

The Bihar Police Headquarters has also issued a high alert across the state on Thursday in response to the ongoing debates surrounding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament, reported IANS. 

Additional Director General Law and Order Pankaj Darad has instructed all Inspector Generals of Police (IGs), Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to remain vigilant and ensure that peace and order are maintained across the state.
