University Of Hyderabad Students End Protest Following SC Stay On Land Development
University of Hyderabad Students' Union initiated the protest on April 1 opposing Telangana government's proposal to develop land in Kancha Gachibowli, citing concerns over environmental protection.

Students at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) have called off their indefinite protest and class boycott after the Supreme Court intervened to halt any further development on a disputed 400-acre land parcel adjacent to the university.
Students Resume Classes
The University of Hyderabad Students' Union (UoHSU) initiated the protest on April 1 opposing Telangana government's proposal to develop the land in Kancha Gachibowli, citing concerns over environmental conservation. However, following the Supreme Court’s stay order on Thursday, the students resumed classes on Friday, according to UoHSU Vice President Akash Kumar, as per a report on PTI.
The Supreme Court questioned the urgency behind the state government’s move to clear a significant tree-covered area and ordered a pause on any further activity until further notice. In response to the court’s decision, Telangana government has decided to form a ministerial committee to engage with UoH authorities, student representatives, civil society members and other stakeholders to find a resolution.
While students welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention, their demands remain firm. UoHSU President Umesh Ambedkar stated that the students would continue their efforts until the plan to auction the land is permanently scrapped and the entire 400-acre parcel is officially transferred to the university.
Additionally, students have raised concerns about the presence of police personnel in the university’s East Campus, where the disputed land is located. They have filed a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking their withdrawal, Akash Kumar said.
