Punjab AAP Leader Anokh Mittal Attacked By Armed Robbers, Wife Hacked To Death

The robbers were armed with sharp-edged weapons and launched an assault on the couple while they were returning home from dinner. Mittal's wife died on the spot.

The wife of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and prominent businessman Anokh Mittal was hacked to death by armed robbers on late Saturday night. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

The incident took place while Mittal, along with his wife Lipsi, were returning home from a dinner in Dehlo when robbers attacked them.

According to police, Mittal's car was intercepted by around five armed robbers near the Sidhwan Canal bridge in village Rurka. The robbers were armed with sharp-edged weapons and launched an assault on the couple. Anokh Mittal was severely injured in the attack after he attempted to resist. He is currently receiving medical treatment at DMC Hospital, Hindustan Times reported.

His wife, Lipsi Mittal, also suffered injuries in the brutal attack. She could not survive the injuries and died at the scene. The robbers then fled the location with the AAP leader’s car and other belongings.

"We are investigating the incident from all angles and will take strict action against the perpetrators," a senior police official told HT.

Anokh Mittal joined the AAP about four months ago. He was inducted by MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi. Mittal is a well-known businessman and his involvement with the party diverted attention to the Mittal community in both business as well as political circles.

In a separate incident, two of the men who were deported from the US, were arrested by Punjab police soon after they landed in Amritsar. The two brothers had absconded to the US after being declared wanted in a murder case in Patiala.

The two detainees, identified as Sandeep and Pradeep, are both cousins. They were wanted in a murder case which was filed in Patiala district’s Rajpura town in 2023, police said. The duo was apprehended by a team of Patiala police as they landed at Sri Guru Ramdas Airport in Amritsar on Saturday.
