Fear Grips Patna's Mokama As Another Shootout Lays Bare Intense Gang War In Bihar

Tensions in Patna's Mokama area escalate after a gunfight between former MLA Anant Singh's men and the Sonu-Monu gang over a business dispute.

Another firing incident took place in Patna's Mokama area on Thursday night as tensions simmered in the area after a gunfight between men of former MLA Anant Singh and Sonu-Monu gang.

The two sides first clashed on Wednesday as Singh's men fired first followed by retaliatory firing by another group of two brothers, Sonu and Monu.

A dispute related to some business arose between a resident of Nauranga village, Mukesh Kumar and Sonu-Monu. Mukesh worked with Sonu-Monu in partnership in a brick kiln business and had gone to the two brothers to demand his outstanding money. However, the two allegedly assaulted him and locked him inside a house, according to Patna Rural Superintendent of Police, Vikram Sihag.

According to the SP, Singh sent a message to the Sonu-Monu gang to unlock Mukesh's room but they refused. Later, the former MLA reached the village along with his supporters to resolve the dispute. Meanwhile, Singh's men opened fire, leading to retaliation from the opposite side.

The second incident of firing also took place near Mukesh's home from where cartridge shells were recovered.

On Friday, the police arrested Sonu Singh in connection with the firing incident, said Station House Officer at the Panchmahla police station. A close aide of Anant Singh, Roshan Kumar was also arrested by the police. He was present at the spot on the day of the firing incident on Wednesday.

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday slammed the NDA in Bihar over the incident saying the ruling alliance was giving "patronage to criminals".

"Hundreds of rounds were fired, which is proof that people are not safe even in the vicinity of the state capital. Had it been any other government, there would have been debates on national television about the collapse of law and order in Bihar," said the leader of the opposition.
