5 Killed In Massive Fire In Sleeper Bus In Lucknow, Driver Breaks Glass To Jump: Watch

A passenger said all of them were sleeping when the fire broke out. She alleged that the driver didn't inform the passengers about the blaze.

At least five people were charred to death after a massive fire broke out in a moving bus in Lucknow on Thursday. The sleeper bus with around 80 passengers was travelling from Bihar to Delhi when it suddenly caught fire on Kisan Path.

Many passengers, including the driver, broke the glass and jumped out to save themselves.

Visuals on social media showed the bus gutted in the fire, while passengers were sitting on the road.

DCP (South) Nipun Agarwal said local police and fire brigade teams immediately reached the spot and rescued more than 70 passengers.

"This morning, Mohanlalganj police received information that a private sleeper bus travelling from Begusarai in Bihar to Delhi caught fire near Samgata-Swagat. Local police and fire brigade teams immediately reached the spot and rescued more than 70 passengers. Unfortunately, five passengers died in the incident. All the deceased have been identified and are residents of Bihar," the police officer said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mourned the loss of lives in the accident. He took cognisance of the incident and directed the officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite the relief work.

A passenger alleged that the driver didn't inform the passengers about the fire. "We don't know what caused the fire... everyone was sleeping at that time. The driver should have informed us, but he did not inform us... When the fire broke out, the door was locked from the outside. We managed to escape somehow. Some of the passengers couldn't escape."
