A woman was sexually assaulted and thrashed by a group of men who were in under the influence of alcohol and drugs in Bengaluru.

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly molested and assaulted by a group of intoxicated men in broad daylight. One of the accused has been arrested so far. The woman, who was out to buy groceries, was attacked by a group of six men in Renuka Yellamma Layout, near Mylasandra Road in Anekal taluk, on the outskirts of Bengaluru at around 5:00 PM on Sunday.

A video of the alleged incident has now surfaced online, drawing widespread outrage. The footage shows the men following the woman and physically assaulting her as she fought back. At one point in the video, one of them can be seen slapping the woman as she struggled to get away.

Later the accused even tried to storm into the woman's neighbourhood and attack those who had helped her. Another video showed the group attempting to enter the gate of a residential complex-like building.

Woman Files Complaint, 1 Arrested

The woman, in her complaint, has alleged that she was on her way to buy some groceries when she spotted a group of men fighting among themselves. As she passed by, they suddenly began teasing and abusing her. She further alleged that they even attempted to touch her inappropriately. 

When she resisted, the group escalated their aggression, beating her in full view of the public. They used vulgar and obscene language against her and physically attacked her. The woman then allegedly hit one of them in self-defence.

Police told news agency PTI that the woman then informed her gym trainer about the incident, who reached the spot and rescued her. He even allegedly hit one of the accused who had misbehaved with her. Another case of assault has been filed against the woman and the gym trainer on the basis of his counter-complaint.

"All efforts are being made to nab the remaining accused in the case," a senior police officer said.

"Based on the woman’s complaint, we have registered a case of molestation and included sections 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (punishment for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), and 126 (wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bannerghatta police station," he further said.
