Noida: A man on Thursday was allegedly stabbed to death after a fight at a meat shop in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place when the victim, a 35-year-old Shahzad, and an unidentified customer arrived at the shop to buy meat.
The meat shop is owned by one Gulzar and is located in Sorkha village. When Shahzad asked the other person to give him the towel he was wearing to use it to take the meat in it, the accused got angry, leading to a scuffle between the two, news agency PTI reported citing Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Rambadan Singh.
The accused then picked up a knife at the meat shop and stabbed Shahzad in the stomach, DCP Singh said.
Eyewitnesses said that the attacker, amidst the heated argument, suddenly picked up the butcher's knife lying on the counter, and stabbed Shahzad in his stomach, cutting it open. After being stabbed, the victim held his bleeding stomach and ran approximately 40 metres to a nearby intersection in Sector 117, NDTV reported.
He then collapsed onto a culvert while seeking help and went unanswered. However, the accused did not stop there. He continued to stab Shahzad several more times until he died. Following this, the accused returned to the meat shop, picked up his order, and walked away as if nothing had happened.
Upon receiving information regarding the stabbing incident police reached the spot and took the body into custody. The body has been sent for post-mortem. An investigation was launched to search for the accused but no concrete information was received about him then, PTI reported.
The police examined the CCTV footage from nearby shops to get clues that would lead to the accused. Later, the police received a tip-off about the accused, identified as Amarjeet Mahato, a Bihar native.
Mahato was traced to a jungle bordering Sector 117. When he was surrounded by the police, he fired at the officers with a pistol, which started a fire exchange. The police shot him in the leg and took him to a hospital for treatment. The knife which was used in the murder has been seized. Besides this, the accused's pistol and a stash of live cartridges have also been recovered.
Shahzad is survived by three children and wife who works as a cook. He had recently lost his job as a driver and was looking for a new job. The meat shop owner also fled the scene immediately after the incident.
