No Respite For Delhi As IMD Sounds Heatwave Alert Till This Date

Delhi saw a sudden change in weather on Friday after strong dust storms and gusty winds swept through the city, bringing down the temperature. However, IMD has forecast heatwave in the city in the upcoming days.

After witnessing a sudden change in weather conditions with dust storms followed by rain in Delhi, the national capital will continue to see cloudy skies on Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach around 37 degrees Celsius, the India Meterological Department forecast said.

The relief from heat, however, is short-lived as the weather department has issued heat wave warning for the national capital along with other northern states between April 15-18.

The minimum temperature in the national capital on Sunday morning settled at 20.2 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 notch below the seasonal average. The relative humidity was recorded at 48 per cent at 8.30 AM.

The IMD had issued an orange alert for Delhi-NCR, cautioning adverse weather conditions were likely to persist on Saturday evening after strong dust storms and gusty winds swept through the city on Friday evening.

"Heat wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over Gujarat state during 15th-17th; Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh during 16th-18th with severe heat wave conditions at isolated pockets over East Rajasthan on 18th April," IMD said.

Additionally, heat wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over West Rajasthan on April 14 and 15 with severe heat wave conditions at isolated pockets during April 16-18.

"A fresh spell of heat wave likely to commence over parts of Northwest India and over Gujarat from 15th April," the IMD statement read.

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the 'moderate' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 114 at 9 AM on Sunday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
