The fire broke out on Saturday morning in the Malad area of Mumbai’s western suburbs. The fire reportedly started in a furniture warehouse in the Khadakpada locality, located between Malad and Dindoshi. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the flames, which initially began in one warehouse, quickly spread to surrounding areas, escalating into a major blaze.
As the fire spread rapidly, large plumes of black smoke were visible rising into the sky, which could be seen from a distance, indicating the intensity of the fire.

Firefighters were alerted around 11:35 AM, and four to five fire engines rushed to the scene to battle the blaze. Efforts to control the fire are currently underway. Given the presence of nearby slums and furniture stores, there is a significant risk that the fire could spread further. The Dindoshi police have arrived at the scene and are evacuating the surrounding areas for safety reasons.
No casualty has been reported so far, but there is substantial damage to the structure and goods in and around the furniture shop. Several other furniture warehouses were also destroyed.
As the fire rapidly spread, residents in the area began fleeing. Several vehicles carrying gas cylinders were parked near a hotel in the vicinity, raising concerns that if these vehicles caught fire, a series of explosions could occur.
The local police quickly worked to move these vehicles to safety. The fire’s intensity also caused windows in many nearby stores to shatter, prompting business owners to start moving their goods to safer locations.
