'Delivery Se Pahle...': BJP MP's Bizarre Response To Pregnant Women Demanding Road Access

Sidhi BJP MP Rakesh Mishra suggested pregnant women in Khaddi Khurd, lacking proper roads, be "picked up" before delivery, sparking outrage.

A controversial remark by Sidhi BJP MP Dr Rakesh Mishra has ignited fresh debate in Madhya Pradesh after he suggested that pregnant women from Khaddi Khurd village could be “picked up a week before delivery” due to the lack of a proper road in the area.

The issue came to light once again after local social media influencer Leela Sahu, who is currently pregnant herself, shared her concerns online. Sahu highlighted how the absence of motorable roads makes it nearly impossible for ambulances to reach Khaddi Khurd, particularly during the monsoon season. Expectant mothers are often forced to travel by tractor or endure critical delays in accessing medical care.

“This isn’t the first time this has been raised,” said Sahu, noting that she first flagged the problem in 2023. With no significant progress since then, her renewed appeal has attracted fresh attention and media scrutiny.

When questioned about the matter, MP Mishra defended the existing infrastructure, stating, in a viral video, “We have ambulances, we have other facilities, we have ASHA workers there. Come and get admitted at the hospital.” He added, “Every delivery has an estimated date; we’ll get them picked up a week in advance.”

Three days earlier, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rakesh Singh also addressed the issue, referencing Sahu’s viral video. “There are so many people who have such demands,” he said. “What do you think — does the PWD or any other department have so much funding that someone makes a post and we rush out with a dumper to construct a road? We’ll reach there with a cement concrete plant. This is not possible; there’s a process for this.”

The comments have fuelled further frustration among villagers and social media users who argue that basic infrastructure should not be contingent on social media appeals or estimated delivery dates.
