One of the women told them how terrorists shot her husband dead during their vacation in the valley. "They killed my husband," the inconsolable woman said.
Visuals on social media showed women wailing near the bodies of their family members. One of the victims is an Indian Navy officer who had gone to Kashmir on a short trip after his wedding on April 16. The resident of Haryana was posted in Kochi and had joined the Navy just two years ago. Another victim, who was from Kanpur, was newly married.
This is the deadliest attack in the Kashmir Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019. Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba's offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), has claimed responsibility for the attack.
One of the survivors said some terrorists asked her father to come out of a tent and recite an Islamic verse. When he couldn't, they shot him once in the head, then behind the ear and then his back. Another person said that terrorists blamed them for supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after which they made some statements to deny that Kashmiri militants kill innocent people, women and children.
