A final-year dental student at a Udaipur medical college died by suicide, leaving behind a note alleging faculty harassment. This is the second student suicide reported in a week.

A final-year dental student at a private college in Udaipur was found dead in her hostel room on Thursday night, allegedly by suicide. The student, Shweta Singh from Jammu and Kashmir, reportedly left behind a note accusing college faculty of mental harassment and academic negligence. This tragic incident, the second of its kind within a week, has sparked outrage among students and raised concerns about student mental health and institutional accountability.

Protests Erupt After Tragedy In Udaipur

Shweta Singh, pursuing her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at Pacific Dental College, was found hanging in her hostel room by her roommate. Authorities were alerted immediately, and a suicide note was recovered. According to police officials, the note alleges that certain faculty members mentally harassed students and failed to conduct exams on time.

Following the incident, students launched a protest march inside the campus and blocked a road outside the college, demanding justice and immediate action against the accused staff. The college director met with protesters and assured strict action based on the findings of the investigation.

Station House Officer (SHO) Ravindra Charan of Sukher Police Station confirmed that Singh’s body has been sent to the mortuary and a postmortem will be conducted after the arrival of her family.

Second Student Suicide In A Week

This heartbreaking incident comes on the heels of another similar tragedy reported just days earlier. On July 19, a second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida allegedly died by suicide inside her hostel room. A suicide note recovered from the scene accused a male and a female faculty member from the dental department of mental harassment.

Greater Noida Police said the girl had been showing signs of emotional distress. The incident sent shockwaves through the university community and led to an intense overnight protest by hostel residents demanding accountability.

“We have recovered the suicide note. An FIR has been filed, and the two faculty members named have been arrested,” said ADCP Sudhir Kumar.

He further assured the student community and the victim’s family of a transparent and swift investigation. A forensic team has also examined the hostel room for evidence.
