Shimla Winter Carnival Suspended, No Celebration Till January 1
All events of the Shimla Winter Carnival have been postponed. Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan said that no celebratory event will be held in the city till January 1.
Shimla Winter Carnival: The country lost former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Thursday. He breathed his last at AIIMS in Delhi. Following the former Prime Minister's death, a seven-day mourning period has been declared across the country. As a result, all state events featuring celebrations have been suspended. The suspension of celebrations includes the one going on in Shmla in Himachal Pradesh.
The Shimla Municipal Corporation has pushed back all its scheduled programmes at the Shimla Winter Carnival till January 1, 2025.
Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan said that during this period, neither any cultural evening will be organised nor any celebration will be held in the city. The Shimla Winter Carnival started on December 24 and was scheduled to continue till January 2, 2025.
According to sources, the programmes scheduled for January 2, 2025, at the Shimla Winter Carnival will go ahead as planned. The events scheduled from December 27, 2024, to January 1, 2025, will be held later. The Shimla Municipal Corporation may possibly organise these programmes later.
However, no there is confirmation on this by the Shimla Municipal Corporation so far. Till January 1, 2025, no cultural programme or government function will be held in Himachal Pradesh, just as in other states.
Mayor Surender Chauhan Expresses Grief
Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan said expressed his grief at the passing of Manmohan Singh. "I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Dr Singh's demise is an irreparable loss not only for India but for the whole world. Under his leadership, India wrote a new chapter of economic reforms," he said.
He further expressed, "This is a huge loss for the Congress family as well. Today, an era has ended in Indian politics. His foresight, simplicity and policy skills gave a new direction to India's economy and enhanced India's stature globally. His contributions to Indian politics will be remembered for generations to come." The last rites of the former PM are likely to be held tomorrow in Delhi.
