Serving Notice Period After Resignation
Mitra had resigned from his position on July 11, citing health issues and mounting work pressure, and was serving his notice period at the time of the incident.
According to a police official, after banking hours on Thursday, Mitra asked the staff to leave, telling them he would close the branch. The security guard left around 9:30 p.m. CCTV footage shows Mitra hanging himself around 10 p.m. with a rope he had earlier asked a colleague to bring.
Wife Raised Alarm After He Didn't Return
When Mitra didn’t return home and failed to answer calls, his wife went to the bank around midnight. Seeing the lights on but getting no response from inside, she contacted bank staff. Once the branch was opened, Mitra was found hanging from the ceiling.
Suicide Note Mentions Work Pressure
A suicide note was found in the pocket of Mitra’s trousers. “In the note, he wrote that he was ending his life due to pressure related to work,” Inspector Nale confirmed. Police say Mitra had not blamed anyone in the note, and it appears he was undergoing medical treatment as well.
