Manager Found Dead Inside Bank In Maharashtra, Suicide Note Mentions Work Pressure

A nationalised bank's chief manager died by suicide in Baramati, citing work pressure in a note. He was serving notice after resigning over workload and health concerns. Probe is underway.

In a tragic incident that has shocked the banking community, a senior official of Bank of Baroda was found dead inside the bank’s Baramati City branch on Thursday night. Police say the official died by suicide, allegedly driven by stress related to his workload.

Found Hanging Inside Bank Premises

The deceased, Shivshankar Mitra, in his late 40s, was serving as Chief Manager at the Baramati City branch. According to Baramati City Police, he was found hanging inside the bank premises late Thursday night, after he failed to return home.

Police Inspector Vilas Nale of Baramati City Police Station said, “Shivshankar Mitra, the Chief Manager at the Baramati City branch of Bank of Baroda, hanged himself between 10 PM and 12 midnight last night. His wife alerted us after he failed to return home. When she contacted the bank, the staff checked inside and found him hanging. The body has been sent for postmortem, and further investigation has begun.”

Serving Notice Period After Resignation

Mitra had resigned from his position on July 11, citing health issues and mounting work pressure, and was serving his notice period at the time of the incident.

According to a police official, after banking hours on Thursday, Mitra asked the staff to leave, telling them he would close the branch. The security guard left around 9:30 p.m. CCTV footage shows Mitra hanging himself around 10 p.m. with a rope he had earlier asked a colleague to bring.

Wife Raised Alarm After He Didn't Return

When Mitra didn’t return home and failed to answer calls, his wife went to the bank around midnight. Seeing the lights on but getting no response from inside, she contacted bank staff. Once the branch was opened, Mitra was found hanging from the ceiling.

Suicide Note Mentions Work Pressure

A suicide note was found in the pocket of Mitra’s trousers. “In the note, he wrote that he was ending his life due to pressure related to work,” Inspector Nale confirmed. Police say Mitra had not blamed anyone in the note, and it appears he was undergoing medical treatment as well.
