Man Kills Wife At Bengaluru Home, Stuffs Body In Suitcase Before Fleeing; Arrested In Pune
The couple, originally from Maharashtra, got married two years ago and moved to Bengaluru's Hulimavu for work. The accused was arrested on Thursday night, within 24 hours of committing the crime.

A 36-year-old man allegedly killed his wife at their home in south Bengaluru and stuffed her body inside a suitcase before fleeing. He was later nabbed near Pune on Thursday night, within 24 hours of committing the crime.
The 32-year-old victim, Gauri Anil Sambekar, was a mass media graduate and was looking for a job, while the accused, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, worked as a Project Manager in a software firm. The couple, originally from Maharashtra, got married two years ago and moved to Bengaluru's Hulimavu for work.
According to media reports, Rakesh Sambekar contacted Gauri's parents and confessed to the crime over a phone call. He was on the run after killing his wife. The Maharashtra Police acted on a tip-off and launched an investigation immediately. He was arrested while he was on his way to Pune in a car and is being brought back to Bengaluru for further investigation.
Forensic and crime teams were deployed to examine the residence.

Accused Called Up Landlord To Inform Him About The Murder
According to a report by the Times Of India, the accused had called his landlord at around 5:30 PM and informed him about killing his wife the previous night. He asked the owner to alert the police and her family to conduct the funeral.
When the landlord reached their house, he found the door locked from outside, following which he alerted helpline 112.
"At around 5:30 p.m., we received a call at the control room about a suspected hanging case. When the Hulimavu police arrived, they found the house locked. After gaining entry, they discovered a suitcase in the bathroom," NDTV quoted senior police officer Sarah Fatima as saying.
The forensic team opened the suitcase and found the woman's body inside.The senior cop added that the victim's body was intact and not dismembered, but there were severe injury marks.
She added that the extent and nature of the injuries would be confirmed once the post-mortem report was available.
Initially, police were unable to trace the victim’s husband. Later, they learnt that his mobile phone was switched on. The Bengaluru Police then coordinated with the Maharashtra Police and took a flight to reach Pune in the evening, NDTV reported.
"We have now registered a case of murder," the officer said.
A Bengaluru Police team has left for Pune to bring the accused husband back for further interrogation and legal proceedings. The motive for the crime remains under investigation.
"We are working to understand what exactly happened," Fatima added.
