Kolkata Metro's Green Line Connects Howrah And Sealdah, Cuts Down Travel Time To 11 Minutes
Kolkata Metro's Green Line now connects Howrah and Sealdah, reducing travel time to 11 minutes with the CBTC signaling system. This connection provides faster and more reliable travel for commuters.

In a major development which will cut the travel time for the commuters, the Kolkata Metro has successfully connected the two crucial stations Howrah and Sealdah on the Green Line, as reported by India Today TV.
As per the details, this initiative will bring down the travel time between the two railway stations to just 11 minutes. Featured with a Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system, it is expected that this rail corridor will become operational soon.
The completion of Green Line, also referred as the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the East-West Metro Corridor, has brought much relief to people including traders in Bowbazar, a central Kolkata area which was previously affected by tunnel collapses during construction.
Commenting on this recent development, an official from the metro said, "It is a great mental relief for the people and traders of Bowbazar that Metro Railway could finally mitigate the challenges caused by the tunnelling crisis and successfully connect Sealdah Metro Station with Esplanade metro station", while speakig to India Today TV.
Being a first for the Kolkata Metro, the CBTC signalling system will ensure automated train operations with heightened safety standard. This project is expected to upgrade the city's public transport framework.
A senior metro official also compared the metro services between Howrah and Sealdah to operating 72 air-conditioned buses per hour between the two places in just 11 minutes. "This is also equivalent to the departure of one air-conditioned bus in every 50 seconds from both the busiest stations," the official added
Another metro official said that the dream of lakhs of passengers to travel between the two major raikway hub, Sealdah and Howrah, in just eleven minutes in air-conditioned metro rakes is becoming a reality. The metro's efficiency is expected to cut down the 90-minute travel between these stations typically endured on congested roads.
Earlier, the tunnelling process in Bowbazar caused considerable disruptions, including structural damage to houses and shops. This added dissatisfaction among residents and the metro officials faced substantial pressure to address these challenges.
