Sharon Raj Case: Girlfriend Greeshma Sentenced To Death For Poisoning Kerala Student

Greeshma was sentenced to death for poisoning her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, in Kerala while her uncle was sentenced to three years in prison.

A Kerala court on Monday sentenced Sharon Raj's murder case victim, Greeshma to death for the sensational murder of her boyfriend in 2022.

The Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Court also sentenced her uncle Nirmalakumaran Nair, the third accused in the case, to three years in prison, reported PTI.

The case dates back to October 14, 2022, when Greeshma allegedly poisoned her boyfriend, Sharon Raj by mixing her poison in an herbal medical concoction at her residence. The 23-year-old BSc radiology student died 11 days later while being treated in the ICU of a medical college.

Greeshma, 24, had sought leniency in sentencing by citing her academic achievements, lack of prior criminal history, and the fact that she is her parents' only daughter.

However, the court observed in its 586-page verdict that there was no need to consider the convict's age over the gravity of the crime committed.

Victim Sharon Raj was a native of Parassala in the Thiruvananthapuram district.

Sharon and Greeshma were in a long-term relationship. However, Greeshma was planning to marry another person seeking to end her relationship with Sharon.

Sharon refused to break up after which he was murdered. In his dying declaration to the magistrate, he revealed that he consumed the herbal concoction given by Greeshma without suspecting harm.

Announcing the quantum of punishment, the court observed: "The act of inviting Sharon over under the pretext of sexual intimacy and subsequently committing the crime cannot be ignored."

"It is the State's responsibility to ensure punishment for criminal acts. Evidence such as Sharon recording a video of the suspicious juice, despite Greeshma asking him not to record, indicates that he suspected something was wrong. Sharon fought for his life for 11 days without even consuming a drop of water," the Court observed further.
